UK Americana Music Week 2023
WHAT A WEEK!! And what an incredible start to 2023 that was! We had the best time at UK Americana Music Week in London.
From playing at the opening party with Lauren Housley on the Monday, to attending the awards evening and after-party on the Thursday, with so much good stuff packed in between, it really couldn’t have been a better week.
We loved filming the brilliant live sessions at Hackney Social over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday with the likes of Katherine PRiddy, nigel wearne and desiree dawson.
And then of course there were the exclusive screenings of two film projects that we were very proud to have been involved in.
The AMA Songwriting Workshop 2023 was shot in Hackney, London last year. Following on from our last collaboration with the AMA UK - “Songwriting with Hackney Elders” - this time, we captured songwriters from the AMA UK and SESAC collaborating with students from East London Arts and Music. This powerful documentary short explores the songwriting process and the stories of the students, focusing on their experiences of the lockdown years as young people.
“Looking For A New England” is a film we made for our favourite collaborators, British Underground. Set in the heart of industrial Sheffield’s Kelham Island district, the film follows three artists – Katherine Priddy, Misty River and Chloe Foy, as they made their way to Yellow Arch Studios during lockdown. They recorded a showcase for Folk Alliance International they weren’t sure they could even attend in person. The result was this short film - a live, in-the-round performance of some of their original songs and a unique collaboration.

We were also excited to launch our brand-new recording package and competition at the event. We’re bringing a slice of Memphis to Sheffield, and giving independent artists and bands the chance to win a ‘Sun Studios’ style day in the studio with the Northern Cowboys. Our unique, ‘Sun Studios’ experience includes a full day in our welcoming, ‘home from home’ studio, with both of the Northern Cowboys on hand to offer our creativity and expertise. We’ll record, shoot, produce and edit two videos (for bands) or three live performance videos (for acoustic acts) – all in one day.
